Interactive Class for New Parents (Babies)

Every child’s music development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. Because the early months are so important, Music Together® offers two options for new parents with infants. The first is that families may attend a Mixed Age class, whether registered on their own or attending with an older sibling. The second is our special Interactive Music Class for New Parents (also known as the Babies class), typically offered as a one-semester introduction to Music Together.

In our Babies Class the music activities and materials are specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as possible about music development in infants, meet other parents of newborns, and learn fascinating music activities you can recreate at home with your baby.  Babies are naturally musical- and you don't have to be a great singer or dancer youself to nuture their love of music.

This class is recommended for non-mobile infants, generally birth through about 8 months of age.

Concerned about screen time for your baby? Don't worry, we ask that you face your baby away from the screen! This class is to teach you, their caregiver, how to interact musically with your child. We will carefully guide you to becoming a confident music-maker for and with your child!

Mixed Age- Zoom

Each week in Music Together Mixed-Age Classes, babies toddlers, preschoolers, and their loving grownups, gather for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music time. (While online, we split this up to 30-35 minutes on Zoom, and 20-25 minutes during a weekly Facebook class.)

Your teacher will lead you and the other families in music activities ranging from lullabies to full-on jam sessions (with child-friendly instruments, of course). It's so much fun you won't realize how much learning is taking place!

Why Mixed Ages?

Child development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural, family-style learning, so Music Together developed the Mixed-Age music class. Everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize, listen and observe; toddlers play, move, and experiment; preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. And grownups are happy because everyone can come to one class together!

Mixed Ages- On Demand

Watch your weekly Music Together Mixed Age class at a time that is convenient for you! Your weekly pre-recorded class will be posted in our Family Portal on our website each Thursday morning during the semester, and you can watch it (and re-watch it!) whenever you'd like.

Rhythm Kids

Rhythm Kids is for children 4-8 years old (Pre K through 2nd grade) who are ready to lead musical activities with their peers. Children dig deeper and gain a richer understanding of how music works.

Each week we drum, sing, dance, play rhythm instruments, and play music-based games that reinforce, in a fun, playful manner, the rhythm patterns that we learn in class. Rhythm Kids guides children toward developmentally appropriate music and movement activities, where they can begin to take charge, lead others, and be musically creative, as they:

  • make up their own drumming patterns
  • invent new ways to play rhythm instruments (shakers, sticks, etc.)
  • create movement ideas for songs
  • practice soloing, ensemble play, and conducting!

Rhythm Kids carries on the Music Together vision to help children complete the pathway of early childhood music development from birth through age eight. Classes include:

  • weekly 40-45 minute classes
  • Songbook, CDs, and download codes
  • Access to online drum-play videos and other material

Children will:

  • Explore the world of rhythm through movement, instrument play along, and song
  • develop basic rhythm skills, like keeping a variety of levels of beat
  • learn to create, improvise, cooperate, and express themselves musically

Rhythm Kids is a drop-off optional class. We welcome parents to stay and participate, or children may attend on their own, if they're ready.

Tuition for all Music Together classes includes family materials to use at home (e.g., recordings of our award-winning music, illustrated songbook, parent education resources, etc).
